How To Prevent Rugs From Sliding?

Many of you like to elevate the look of your dining room by placing a rug at the centre. However, none of you prefer rugs that get curled or slide across the floor. This looks pretty unattractive and is dangerous as well. The National Institute of Health has reported that almost 38,000 people age 65 years and above fall each year due to loose carpets and rugs in the house.

If you have children or oldies in your family, it is imperative to ensure that they do not fall due to sliding rugs and carpets. So, before you buy modern rugs, it is essential to know to prevent them from sliding. Below are some methods to stop modern carpets and rugs from sliding on surface floors.

1. Rubber waffle rug pads
You can get the rubber waffle rug pads online or from any retailer who sells home furnishings. Generally, these pads are thin. Further, these rug pads are sold according to the size that you ask for. This means, when you go to buy the rubber waffle rug pad, you will have to tell the seller about the area of the floor that the rug acquires. Then, they have to be placed below the rugs.
These rubber waffle rug pads are affordable and easy to install. Also, they help to keep the rugs in place on a hard floor surface. However, these rug pads tend to lose their gripping technology very soon. This happens due to the accumulation of dirt and dust in the grid patterns.

2. Rubberized shelf liner
The rubberized shelf liner that you use for keeping the glassware and dishes in place can be used for keeping the rugs from slipping. Although the rubberized shelf liners look like heavy-duty waffle pads, they are not as expensive as the former. Besides, these rubberized shelf liners are thinner than the waffle rug pads. Generally, the width of these rubberized shelf liners is 12 inches. If you have to create a more secured and larger pad, you can fold the shelf liner and sew them or stitch them.

  3. Natural rubber pads
The natural rubber pads are manufactured from solid grid surfaces. If you have installed thin rugs in your house or flat-woven ones, natural rubber pads can be an ideal solution. However, if you consider the cost of these rubber pads, these are on the expensive side as they are made out of entirely natural rubber and are devoid of any chemicals that can harm the floor surfaces. Even though you will not find much cushion in these natural rubber pads, they provide great protection for the rugs from slipping.

  4. Felt pads
The felt rug pads can be sized and cut according to your need. These pads are available in various thicknesses. When you install the felt pads below the rugs, you can be sure of least wear and tear as they provide ample cushion to the rug. However, unless your rug is a large one, do not expect to get a lot of protection from slipping.

Conclusion
Therefore, install the rug pads as mentioned above if you have to prevent the rugs and carpets from slipping. But, as you all know, prevention is better than cure. So, take necessary precautions before any accident happens.
